Many of us take the clothes we wear everyday for granted. Rarely do we take the time to think about what goes into producing an item of clothing. We do not think about the machinery and labor that goes into a piece of cloth. It comes a long way from the strands of fiber that grow on the cotton plant.
The invention of sewing machine is one invention that has made a great difference to the clothing industry. Singer is a brand a lot of us associate with sewing. The inventor of the Singer sewing machine was Isaac Singer. Once he saw a machine of those days and decided ho could improve it. He set out to do so. He spent 11 days and a total of $40 and came up with a machine that used a up and down mechanism. In 1851 it was introduced for sale in the United States and it quickly became the sewing implement of choice.
Back then the machines were designed to perform specific functions on factory production lines. For example, one machine performed embroidery tasks while the other other sewed straight stitches. These different machines were used to complete items of clothing in mills. The company started making individual ones in the 1890s.
Initially, sewing machines were manufactured for garment factory production lines. The industrial sewing machines are generally designed to perform a specific sewing function such as embroidery or sewing straight stitches. Machines with different functions are used to complete clothing items in a production line. Their goal was to target women that sewed at home. The individual one made it easier for women to sew clothes at home. This was especially great because the machine meant that little girls did not need to learn how to sew at an early age.
The early individual machines needed to be operated by hand. Later improvements added a crank and a foot peddle that mage it easier to use. Now-a-days all sewing machines are run by motors which are powered by electricity.
