The Samsung Captivate on AT&T is a part of the Galaxy S Series of smartphones by Samsung. The iPhone apart, on AT&T, there is no more powerful and fully featured an Android device than the Captivate. The spectacular four-inch AMOLED touchscreen that takes up the entire front of the phone and a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor are what many would consider would make this a truly believable iPhone killer. Is it as beautiful as the iPhone? It certainly won't have owners of the iPhone 4 glancing over in envy for its looks; for everything else, this Samsung cell phone really delivers. And the best part is, you can get it at for as little as $50 with a contract with AT&T.
They've tried to give you the largest screen that it's possible to hold comfortably in your hand, on this Samsung cell phone. A 4 inch screen though is somewhat on the large side, and may be a bit difficult to hold. If thin in your mind is pretty, the Captivate certainly scores here. It has no slide out keyboard to add bulk, and it comes in at a very slim 0.6 inch. About the most Debating part of the Captivate is short today the touchscreen. If you have beenspoiled by the Rretina display in the iPhone, you won't be disappointed with what this 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive beauty is capable of. Of course, the display is super crisp, sharp and bright; but using the Super AMOLED technology means better viewing angles and better battery life. Not the most beautiful touchscreen and the world is going to make up for a slow processor that draws the screen elements lethargically. You'll have no problem there on this Samsung cell phone. The screen redraws are instantaneous, and all over, the phone's responsiveness is perfect. The screen even comes with an accelerometer that should be perfect for certain kinds of games.
The Samsung Captivate ships with a few stock apps - for mobile banking, the Yellow Pages, GoogleTalk, a calculator, and to take advantage of AT&T's services. You might want to check to see if AT&T allows you to install third-party apps. For a long time, AT&T hasn't budged here. Those coming over from the iPhone will really appreciate how solid the call quality on the Captivate is. It's far better than anything the iPhone 4 has been capable of. And with GoogleTalk and spectacular WiFi connectivity, you'll never find yourself needing to pay for those international calls. It comes with 16 GB of internal storage, and with a 5 megapixel camera, you can probably shoot to your heart's content.
Not all the great functions are going to make you happy though if the battery isn't up to the task. It comes with a 1500mAh battery that is supposed to give you about six hours of talk time. And it seems to actually deliver that much. On AT&T, this Samsung cell phone is easily the best Android smartphone you can buy. It is probably one of the best Android phones you can buy anywhere.
